What we do

Three connected lines of work: residential solar and storage, commercial energy systems, and wholesale supply to the trade. They inform each other — being an installer means the equipment we wholesale is equipment we have installed and serviced ourselves, and being a wholesaler means our installation pricing is built on real landed costs rather than on someone else's margin.

Why this site exists

Solar and battery marketing in Australia has a well-earned credibility problem. Rebate figures are quoted without the assumptions behind them. Payback periods are calculated on blended rates that overstate the result. Export limits are treated as a formality until the day they are not.

The response we have chosen is to publish the method. Every technical guide on this site carries an issue date, a revision number and a source list. Where a number depends on a market price, we say so and show the price we assumed. Where the honest answer is “it depends on your site”, we say that rather than inventing a figure.

Set Solar, our retail brand, is where packages and pricing live. This site is where the engineering lives. Both are the same company.

How we work

  • Assessment before quoting. Roof, switchboard, phase configuration and interval data where relevant. A quote produced without these is an estimate wearing a quote's clothes.
  • Network pre-approval before commitment. You should know your approved export limit before you pay a deposit, not after.
  • Separated line items. Certificate counts, assumed certificate prices and base pricing shown separately, so the discount is verifiable.
  • Written scope on backup. What will and will not run during an outage, specified before installation.
  • Compliance certification on every job — a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work, with a copy provided to you.

Common questions

Is Set Energy accredited?

Set Energy Pty Ltd holds NSW Electrical Contractor Licence 467699C. Installation work is carried out by licensed electricians and accredited installers, and every job is certified with a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work.

What is the relationship between Set Energy and Set Solar?

Set Energy Pty Ltd is the contracting entity. Set Solar is the retail brand under which packages and pricing are published. One company, one licence, one point of contact.

Do you use subcontractors?

Installations are carried out by licensed electricians and accredited installers. When workload requires additional crews, we engage licensed subcontractors who work to the same standards, processes and documentation requirements as our own team. Your contract is with Set Energy Pty Ltd throughout, and every job is certified with a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work completed by the licensed electrician who performed the work.

Who creates the NSW PDRS certificates on my job?

PDRS certificates can only be created by a certificate provider accredited by IPART. We are not an accredited certificate provider ourselves — we work with one, so the state incentive can be claimed on jobs we install. It is a fair question to ask any installer before signing, because an installer with no ACP relationship cannot deliver the state incentive at all.
